ਲਵਸ਼ਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਡੱਲੇਵਾਲ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਲਿਖੀ ਪੁਸਤਕ “ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਦਾ ਦੌਰ” ਨੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਧੁੰਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਿਤਾਏ ਗਏ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਜ਼ਾ ਕੀਤਾ-ਬਲਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਘੁੰਮਣ
ਇਹ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਦਾ ਦੌਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖੀ ਪੁਸਤਕ 303 ਪੰਨਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਲਵਸ਼ਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਡੱਲੇਵਾਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਰਸ਼ਪਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਗਿੱਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਐਡਿਟ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਹ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਜੋ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ੳਹ ਸਾਰਥਕ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਲ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਬਲੀ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਨਾ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਹੇਰ ਫੇਰ ਜਾਂ ਗੋਲ-ਮੋਲ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਸਗੋਂ ਕੁੱਝ ਵੀ ਛੁਪਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਬਜਾਏ ਦੋਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਫ ਅਤੇ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਦੇਹੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਦੇ 1980 ਤੋਂ 1990 ਦੇ ਦਹਾਕੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਯਾਦਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਤਜ਼ਰਬਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਤਾਬ ਇੱਕ ਸਧਾਰਨ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਠੋਸ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ ਹੈ । ਹਾਲ ਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ 1980 ਦੇ ਦਹਾਕੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ‘ਤੇ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਕੌਮੀਅਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਦੇਸ਼ ਲਈ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ‘ਤੇ ਕੇਂਦਰਿਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਲਿਖੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੇਖਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਲੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਤਜ਼ਰਬਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਅਤੇ ਦਲੀਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਦਾ ਦੌਰ ਕਿਤਾਬ “ਪੁਲਿਸ ਕੈਟ” ਦੇ ਵਰਤਾਰੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ 1980 ਅਤੇ 1990 ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਕਤਲੇਆਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਡੀ.ਜੀ.ਪੀ ਐਸ.ਐਸ. ਵਿਰਕ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਹੂਮ ਐਸ.ਐਸ. ਪੀ ਸਵਰਨ ਘੋਟਨੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਸਲਕੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਅਪਰਾਧਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਾਲੀਆਂ ਬਿੱਲੀਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਅਪਰਾਧਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਉਂਗਲ ਉਠਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਇਹ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਸੰਸਦ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਸਿਮਰਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ ਸਮੇਤ ਕੁਝ ਮੋਹਰੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮਨਮਾਨੀਆਂ ਕਾਰਵਾਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਮੇਰਾ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਇੱਕੋ ਇੱਕ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜੀ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਣੌਤੀ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਥਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਮਰਹੂਮ ਡਾ: ਸੋਹਣ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਗਵਾਈ ‘ਤੇ ਸਵਾਲੀਆ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੇਖਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਹਿਮਤ ਹੋਵਾਂ, ਪਰ ਕਮਰੇ ਵਿਚਲਾ ਹਾਥੀ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਮੁੱਦਾ ਹੁਣ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੀ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਲਈ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ । ਹੁਣ ਸਮਾਂ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਿੱਖ ਬੁੱਧੀਜੀਵੀ, ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਦਰਜ ਨੁਕਤਿਆਂ ‘ਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਹੱਲ ਕਰਨ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੇਖਕ ਨੇ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਮਰਹੂਮ ਸਰਬਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਰੋਪੜ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਇੱਕ ਹਵਾਲਾ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਿੱਖ “ਕੈਂਪਾਂ” ਵਿਚ ਧਰੁਵੀਕਰਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਡੇਰੇ ਨੇ ਤੱਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਧਾਰ ‘ਤੇ ਉਸਾਰੂ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਟਾਂਦਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਣ ਅਤੇ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਢਾਂਚਾਗਤ ਸਿੱਖ ਮੰਚ ‘ਤੇ ਲਿਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਬਜਾਏ ਵੰਡੀਆਂ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਤੱਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਥਕ ਅਤੇ ਆਦਰਪੂਰਵਕ ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਯੋਗਤਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਬਾਬਤ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਤਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਕਾ ਨਕੋਦਰ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਹੋਰ ਵੇਰਵਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਿਆਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਮਰਹੂਮ ਸੁਖਜਿੰਦਰ ਖਹਿਰਾ ਦੀ ਸਾਕਾ ਨਕੋਦਰ ਅਤੇ 1980 ਦੇ ਦਹਾਕੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਨਕਾਰਾਤਮਕ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਵੇਰਵਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਸਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਦਾ ਫਾਰਮੈਟ ਇੱਕ ਸੰਖੇਪ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਵਰਣਨ ਸ਼ੈਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੰਨਾ 98 ‘ਤੇ ਇਕ ਅਧਿਆਇ ਦਿਲਚਸਪ ਲੱਗਿਆ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ ਚਾਰ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਰਸ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਹਾਂ।
ਲੇਖਕ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਦੋਸਤਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਉਦਾਹਰਣਾਂ ਸਾਂਝੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸਟੇਟ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜਾਰੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ। ਯਾਦ ਦਿਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ, ਕਿਤਾਬ ਲੇਖਕ ਦੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਅਨੁਭਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ ਹੈ। ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਯੋਗ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਧਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਧੁੰਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਿਤਾਏ ਗਏ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਜ਼ਾ ਕੀਤਾ।

The book “Sangharsh Da Daur” in Punjabi is a 303-page publication authored by Lavshinder Singh Dallewal and edited and published by Rachhpinder Kaur Gill. After reading this book, the first thought that comes to mind is the use of meaningful and simple language. There is no manipulation or ambiguity in the words used; rather, it directly points to the culprits without hiding anything. The book is based on memories and personal experiences from the period of struggle during the 1980s to 1990s.
The book serves as a solid document in plain conversation and language. In recent times, many books have been written focusing on the Sikh struggle for an independent nation during the 1980s, based on Sikh religion and nationalism. These books often revolve around the authors’ political views and personal experiences. Sangharsh Da Daur shares valuable information about “police cats” and clearly highlights the crimes against humanity committed by various police informants during the Sikh massacres in the 1980s and 1990s, including the genocide of Sikh youth by former Punjab DGP S.S. Virk and the late SSP Swaran Ghotna.
The book also exposes the autocratic actions of prominent Sikh leaders, including former MP Simranjit Singh Mann. I believe this is one of the few books that directly challenges the status quo and raises questions about the role and leadership of the late Dr. Sohan Singh of the Panthic Committee. It’s not necessary for us to agree with all the author’s views, but the “elephant in the room” has been brought out, meaning the issue is now open for public debate. It is time for Sikh intellectuals, academics, and political scientists to reflect on and address the points raised in this book. The author also shared a reference to the role of the late Sarabjit Singh Ropar during the movement.
Due to historical events, polarization is happening within the Sikh community, with different groups forming around facts rather than engaging in meaningful and respectful discourse on a structured Sikh platform. People knowledgeable about facts and capable of engaging in constructive conversations should lead these discussions.
The book mentions the Nakodar incident, though it could have been explained in greater detail. Similarly, the negative role of Punjab’s former Education Minister, the late Sukhjinder Khaira, during the Nakodar massacre and the 1980s era could have been elaborated more. Still, the book is presented in a brief but informative style.
I found the chapter on page 98 particularly interesting, as it discusses four types of people who claim to be heirs of martyrs, and I personally relate to one of those categories.
The author shares many examples from the books of his fellow companions who were victims of anti-Sikh violence perpetrated by the state. As a reminder, this book is a documentation of the author’s personal experiences and reflections. For me, reading this book was enlightening, as it enriched my knowledge and brought back memories of the days lost in the fog of time.
